BnF Mitterand
The national library in Paris (Bibliotheque nationale de France, site Mitterand)--more later this evening...
Edit: I ran out of time before we left for a wonderful play: "Bach to Theater", with acting, large-scale video projections, and marvelous music--from Bach's suites for solo cello, played by George Hingham, former first cellist of the Philadelphia orchestra. His wife, Sylvaine Hinglais, wrote the play and directed. It's very modern, with the characters rising from their ashes after a disastrous fire. The theater company is Le Pierrot Lunaire--vivid and creative images from the play are displayed on its website.
The image was taken late this afternoon as I left the west entrance of the library, looking south with thin clouds. Two of the four towers are visible; they form a wide rectangle, rising from the main outside (ground) level of the library, above where we are here. Here is an evening image taken in January from that ground level; it should make the overall structure of the library clearer (the rectangular ground plan is visible on the map).
