The Tata Steel Chess tournament has been given the green light for amateur chess players! This tournament is very special: top players from all over the world, including the world champion, come to play. And the special thing: amateurs play in the same room. The city of Wijk aan Zee breathes chess at that time, all hotels and B&Bs are full of chess enthusiasts. When you play in this tournament, you play in a group at your own level, but you can be promoted to the next level. Technically you can work your way up to the Grandmasters group. That is why they call the tournament the Wimbledon of chess. Registering is a bit like trying to get hold of a highly sought-after concert ticket! This morning I made an attempt to register for our son. And it worked! if Covid does not throw a spanner in the works, he will play in the tournament in January. The best part: his friends also managed to get a seat. a nice thing to look forward to!
