Marching in

Today is All Saints' Day,  All Hallows Day when all the saints- known or unknown - who've made it to Heaven are celebrated. There's one well dedicated to All Saints in county Cork and it's near Blarney - remember last time I went to Blarney I couldn't get out!  Himself was driving and all was grand until we hit a road closed without many options. Daphne, the google map lady, didn't know about this closed road and kept on trying to take us back again. In the end words were spoken and she was turned off and I had to navigate, heaven help us! All good and when we were nearly there we passed a rather good cafe and it was just about lunch time. I had a seriously excellent salad - warm peach with pomegranate, toasted almonds and mangetout peas. Because it was fairly bracing (we were in a gazebo outside) I also had chips! Thus fuelled we tackled the well. I don't think it had received many other visitors on its feast day but it was looking magnificent and all the saints were waiting expectantly. The main shows its rather impressive lintel - Himself reckons it's marble - depicting the crucifixion, the name and date 1761 , pilgrim crosses and much graffiti. We didn't just go for the craic but I have been asked to contribute an article to the SPAB magazine (Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings) on holy wells and think I might focus on this one. Much measuring was done, materials and features noted and Himself did some drawings. A good start to November.
It had to be done!
