It's a man thing....
First day of the Easter break and, as the weather was reasonable, we decided it was time for the garage's long overdue spring-clean. One of the reasons our garage is such a clutter is that we have been clearing out my late father-in-law's extensive collection of hand tools. When I say extensive, I mean a garage and three sheds worth of extensive, bless him. Through a local charity, we have arranged to equip just about every village in West Africa with a comprehensive set of hand and garden tools. However, one or two pieces mysteriously found their way to our own garage, to suppplement my own very modest collection (my daughters will be relieved to hear).
A fair amount of garage cleaning was achieved, though I was somewhat distracted by the remarkably therapeutic task of cleaning and oiling old hand drills to get them working again. Aaahh, the smell of oil, WD40 and dirty rags.
Amongst the drills was this little beauty. A British-made (Willie only bought British-made as they were the best) pillar drill. Before today, I didn't really know what a pillar drill was, as I thought drills only came in three varieties: hand, Black & Decker, and dentist's. Ok, a fourth, road-drills. This clever device not only drills holes, but the drill chuck automatically (I couldn't quite work out how, but I got it working anyway) moves up and down to make the hole. Clever, eh?
I think I have probably exorcised my drill demons for this year. Anyone need any holes drilled?
