Pruners' Lunch

The six of us pruned all day today and now we have only about 500 grenache to do on Sunday morning. That means we've pruned 4500 grape vines during the four days of this week when it wasn't raining. Pretty good going for four novice volunteers and us. We're thrilled to bit to have got so much done and to still be able to stand up. Bending over to sort out very old low bushes pruned en gobelet - in a goblet shape - can be murder on the back, but we've all stayed remarkably free of too many aches and pains.

All this pruning is helped along with frequent stops for coffee, tea and the highlight, lunch. Hearty home-made soup, fresh baguette, colombier cheese and ham fortify us for more work during the afternoon.

Thank you dear vollies, we couldn't have done it without you.
