Closed for Dancing
This used to be The Tower Ballroom, at Edgbaston Reservoir in Birmingham. Sadly it now looks like a case of Urbex. It was opened in 1827 as a skating rink but has spent most of its life as a dance hall, finally closing in 2017. Developers wanted to pull it down and build over it but Birmingham residents objected. Now it's just standing there, probably costing Birmingham City Council a packet.
Len's appointment at Hagley Road didn't take long so we drove over to the reservoir afterwards. If we'd felt sufficiently energetic we might have walked over to the other side. Instead, we adjourned to the Reservoir Café at the entrance which does good trade serving workmen, TV crews and passers by like us. Basil was also able to go in and sit under the table.
No decaf tea so I drank green tea as an alternative.
The décor inside is rather nice, reminding me of the plasterwork you see in old banks and there was a marvellous wrought iron staircase.
There really was a TV crew in the vicinity. Filming a new drama for ITV called DI Ray. The production company is part owned by Jed Mercurio. You know. Line of Duty...
