Work in town. I have little interest in organised religion but I must admit I am very impressed by the murals at St John's on the West End of Princes St in Edinburgh. They regularly raise social and political issues I full-heartedly support. There hadn't been one in ages, probably not since the start of the pandemic. Unsurprisingly they have one for COP26.
I am sick and tired of the blahblahblah. Dealing with the climate crisis also means dealing with all the other associated crises. And most importantly with our capitalist system that benefits the few at the cost of the majority by exploiting natural resources and fellow humans. We, in the rich countries of the global North, must recognise that we have a huge debt to pay. We have been born by luck into a time and society where we have comparatively many options. Our society is this wealthy because we have been exploiting carbon for the last few hundred years and during this time colonised and exploited the rest of the world. Even today our life style depends on the exploitation of natural resources and people. Where does our cheap food, cheap clothes, amazing electronic gadgets come from? The place and time of our birth is not our fault. But we must be aware of this debt that we have accrued. We have to name the colonialism and the exploitation. We can do little things by choosing how and what we consume. But most importantly we must stand up to power and demand a different world.
In other news the Tories voted to protect their corrupt fellows.
