Estelas en la mar

Rosario

Once the biggest and richest mine in the hemisphere, Rosario was home to the US employees of the New York Honduras Rosario Mining Company - locals lived in San Juancito, downhill (I guess a 3 km hike in the morning was good for them).
It is shocking to read how much gold, silver, copper and timber the NYHRMC was allowed to exploit, free of charges and taxes. As everywhere in the world, mining is an extremely dangerous job. After Spaniards had exterminated indigenous workers, the American employed latinos. Widowers were granted a coffin and 20 Lempiras.
