Chasing the Colors South
The foliage colors have already peaked where I live, and the leaves are starting to fall. So my husband and I decided to go for a drive, heading south, to see if we could find more colors. Our journey took us to Shawnee State Park, via the Eat 'n Park in Altoona, where started out our trip with a wonderful, hearty breakfast.
At Shawnee, we parked the car not far from the swimming beach and walked the 3.4-mile trail around the lake. We didn't hurry but we didn't really lollygag either. It took us about two hours, and we were treated to some lovely sights. It was a good call. We had fun and got some exercise, and it was only about an hour and fifteen minutes to get there.
When we finally left to come home, we stopped in Port Matilda along the way for hoagies and potato chips and milk. There is a house nearby that always does a fabulous job with seasonal and holiday decor. Of course, they had their Halloween decorations still up, so please enjoy the very fine but scary werewolf and his friends in the extras!
My soundtrack song is this one: Drive South, by John Hiatt, with Joe Ely and Lyle Lovett.
