Firework
After we’d finished playing last night, we packed down and grabbed a burger and a hot cup of tea. By which time the firework display was about to start so we figured we might as well endure the cold for a little while longer and enjoy the display.
And very good it was too - well over half an hour of rockets, flares, explosions and bangs. There were lasers as well, though the very clear skies actually didn’t help as you could only really see the beams of coloured light when there was plenty of smoke for them to show up against.
The whole evening was very well organised and there was a good turnout. Our set was well received and the youngsters in the crowd seemed to enjoy the young lads doing a DJ set after we had played. The food and drink operation was very slick - a long queue, but it moved very quickly as there was a little army of helpers preparing buns, burgers and hot drinks. Very tasty it was too.
Obviously there were no firework displays last year, and I’m not sure I saw one in 2019, so it was a real treat to watch this one after a two year plus gap. And I have a feeling that this was the exception rather than the norm. I’m not aware of any other large displays taking place in our area, and I’ve not even heard any being set off this evening, even though it’s been dark for a while now.
We’re off to Barrow again shortly, to see another postponed/rescheduled concert. This time it’s Ward Thomas - two very talented sisters who play country music, but with a British slant to it. Well worth checking out if you like that sort of thing. My tickets say “1st May 2020” on them, but I’m assured they are still valid for tonight. Should be quite an intimate, acoustic concert and will definitely be a contrast to Genesis at Manchester Arena a few weeks ago! In fact, given the size of the venue tonight, we probably played to a bigger crowd last night!
