Return to the North

A beautiful day for a beautiful lady

Today has been a sad day in so many ways. We said our final goodbyes to a friend who died so quickly that we really didn’t have much time to prepare ourselves for the loss.

The village church here was packed to the rafters, A was a stalwart of the village, loved and known by many and all wanted to pay their respects.
The tentacles of friendship in our case were numerous, that coupled with the speed of the loss and her age (65) made it quite, quite sad. But then there was the joy of knowing her, knowing she was loved by so many and missed by even more.
There was but one hymn ‘All things bright and beautiful’ and this just summed her up completely - a bright, beautiful, fearless and independent woman.
As the vicar read the commitment a tiny flower petal floated down from above in front of me. I couldn’t help but think it was A’s spirit.
