Flame of friendship

Another backblip, but mainly wanted to post this after a very delightful evening catching up with an old friend who also used to work in the oil industry (my dirty secret!?) But now works in renewables.

Lots of hilarious stories exchanged of all the screw-ups and old friends and real characters who seem to proliferate in the fossil fuel business. Really lovely to catch up and hear how he is getting on.

Candles are as essential to surviving winter here as hot food and warm clothes, as the clocks have now changed we are using them every evening. Probably not the best thing environmentally or for indoor air quality so the daily airing has also resumed (also good for corona!)

As we were talking it occurred to me just how huge the task is going to be, retraining people on an enormous scale to go from getting oil and gas out the ground to working in renewable sectors.
We already know it's hard from the coal mining sector, I fear we are seriously underestimating and under-resourcing that challenge.
And of course right now our society is still built on those magically energy dense fossil fuels..
