Song birds

I was going to post some black necked stilts for blipbigyear but I found some rarer species tonight. The species on the left is a rufus wainright. Notice the red colouring of the head feathers, the the red striped wings and breast. Next to the rufus wainright is another rare species. This bird is a prize singer and many will have heard it's calls and know it's songs well. Not as showy as the rufus with positively drab plumage. Still it's singing makes up for his drabness. It used to have a mate, an art garfunkel but sadly the art moved away and this bird was seen singing in South Africa. They seem to have dropped in to Newcastle on a migratory path to the Byron Bay blues festival.
