Crofthead Mill, Neilston
Crofthead Mill was founded in 1792 and was bought by cotton mill company R.F. Alexander in 1859. In 1890, the company was awarded royal warrant from Queen Victoria and exported threads all over the world. Most important for me is that my great aunts and grandmother worked there as teenagers around 1900 when the mill employed around 1000 workers. The mill closed in 1992 and is now derelict. The mill workers cottages make up a big part of Neilston village and are still occupied today.
