A great night for Kalyn and team! It began with the two seniors and a graduating player being recognized. Each entered the gym with family members through an arch  of colourful balloons and were greeted with cheers and clapping from the fans. The announcer introduced each and gave a summary of her individual accomplishments and contributions to the team. Photos were taken before they left the floor.  Emotions were high and the team struggled a bit in the first set and lost 20-25. They came back to win the next three (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) and the match. The 4th set was tied at 21-21. Our coach called a timeout and the wave started at one end of the gym and was repeated three times, more enthusiastically each time. No one could remember fans ever doing the wave at a volleyball game before, and the players loved it and joined in. The game resumed, and we went ahead 24-21.The fans were on their feet cheering and clapping loudly, and we won the game when the opponents had an attack error. The team certainly deserved the standing ovation from the fans! It was awesome to see such a great turnout of close to 500 fans for the final home game.
Kalyn had another great game, 2nd in kills with 14 and 1st in block assists with 6.
There was a gathering for the coach, her assistants, the players and their families and friends and time to mingle and enjoy pizza and treats. The coach then talked about each player, how she’d first met and recruited her, what each had accomplished, and what she was going to miss about each. The player was presented with a framed collage of several photos of her in action. The three players then gave a short talk about their years with the team and expressed their appreciation of the coach, her assistants and their teammates. A fantastic end to an emotional evening. The two seniors are among the top players at their positions in the league and will definitely be missed.
I took today’s blip from the car as we waited to board the ferry home and a ferry worker walked by. A wet and windy day and the crossing was a bit rough. Glad we’re travelling today because there’s a wind warning for tomorrow.  It’s dark, stormy, and the land is barely visible as we’re turning into the harbour at 2pm.  It’ll be good to get home.
