The Prestonpans Tapestry!
had a great day today with friedaquilter. we met at 11 in New Lanark for a talk and tour of The Prestonpans Tapestry, a wonderful embroidery project of 104 x 1 metre panels depicting the events surrounding the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745, a great victory for Bonnie Prince Charlie.
I was looking for a WBC on the topic of 'bonnet' and so after the talk spent a while taking shots of all the panels that depicted bonnets, including the one showing the gathering of the clans at Glenfinnan on 19 August, when the prince's standard was raised and all the assembled gathering threw their highland tammies in the air. I didn't take any photos of Frieda, so engrossed was I. Sadly, when I went onto the tapestry website to copy the link, what caught my eye - 'reproduction/copyright'. I read the section, which required a permit to reproduce, and as I had taken shots of just the panels, I felt I couldn't use them. So you will have to look at the website to see a bit more of the style and history of the tapestry.
So instead you have a close up of some tiny little purply/blue flowers that are pushing their way through the gravel all around the bottom of the house walls. I don't know what they are but each flower head is only about 15mm across.
After a warming bowl of soup and a good blether, Frieda and I took a walk to the old New Lanark Graveyard, then back to the house for hot cross buns, then another walk to the old Lanark graveyard, which Frieda loved, said she could spend weeks in there!!!
A great day, thanks for making the trip Frieda and let's do it again soon.
