A Day In The Life

The Eagle Has Landed

We were at the Post Office shortly after it opened to mail a package, and pleased to find only one person ahead of us in line. On the way home we stopped at The Boat Landing to see if anything exciting was happening • Driving in we observed a cormorant flapping and drying his wings, awkwardly trying to balance himself on a small turquoise marker that was bobbing in the water. He looked rather comical :) Then, after parking the car we quickly spotted an eagle perched in a tree across the river, but of course the camera wasn’t with me. What to do? Go home and get the camera, of course! • Within seconds of our return ten minutes later, the eagle lifted off and flew downriver. Darn! As soon as he landed at the top of another tree, a second eagle flew in to the same tree but on a lower branch. And like Musical Eagles, the first eagle took off downriver again but this time he disappeared out of view. I was both relieved and pleased the other stayed behind, seeming to enjoy the water below, occasionally preening his feathers, and soaking in the sun’s warmth • It truly was a gorgeous 60 degree November day! We planted anemone bulbs, and finished up the remaining outdoor chores. We’re on a roll!
