Saturday Ride
Having a couple of days off has given me the opportunity to mix up my exercise routine and as it was such a beautiful day I decided to go for a bike ride. Miranda is not best suited for long rides so decided to take the Ridgeback. It has an Alfine 8 speed hub gear which gives enough range to tackle any hills that presented themselves to me throughout my 20 miles. It is a lovely machine, I have been contemplating selling her but I fell in love with her all over again today.
I have not been on a long bike ride for about 6 months so I was well excited and loved every minute of it. I am acutely aware that the Accreditation 3 and 4 are both 2 hour sessions so I think I need to spend some time in the saddle to build up bike fitnes. Going to aim to do at least one long ride a week. I may have to sacrifice a run. I do love a run and I think that they give a good fitness base in terms of endurance however I think I will benefit from specific training on the bike as I won't be running round the drome for 2 hours, I will be pedalling round it.
Safe to say that riding the Velodrome really has awoken the dormant cycling beast that got me on the road to fitness in the first place!
p.s. wowsers wish somebody had told me about bib shorts all those years ago, what a huge difference having a bit of padding on your bottom makes!!
