There was a party down the road

Or maybe it was over the hill
Where there was a birthday
Or an anniversary
Or Christmas came early
And made its way here
In some celebratory moment the festive flowered and took flight
Looking to spread itself around
In a spirit of ever expanding inclusivity
But we missed the invitation
And now the wind has gone from its sails
But somewhere there was a party
I know there was
