Typical Yorkshire Scene
Goodbye tiddlers, off to Sheffield by some circuitous route as the Chesterfield road was closed. To the South St Kitchen, T&R’s project. And pretty cool and funky it is too. Like, y’know, all bare concrete with young people sitting about with laptops and inventive and delicious veggie brunch options. Smashed peas, broadbeans, mint, capers, dukkah and olive oil on Welbeck Sourdough with garlic & za’atar roasted cherry tomatoes with poached eggs. Yes, ma’am!
Onward to look at this Yorkshire sculpture park. And a beautiful day for it. You can understand the excitement of that art scene when those young Turks overturned the old guard. But now that’s gone, you have these strange objects scattered across the landscape as if the high water and optimism of the sixties floated them there and has left them marooned, devoid of any meaning. And you’re not allowed to touch them!
Having said all that, there was much else there to enjoy, including galleries filled by one Joana Vasconcelos.
Later, to Wakefield! And I found a cracking wee micro-brewery and a very friendly and decent fusion eatery place, Robatary. Walked past a few bars worth avoiding too, it must be said.
