There's this empire; lots of planets and stuff. 

The Emperor doesn't much like the Good Guys so gives them a rubbish job on a deserted (hmm) planet.  The Bad Guys had the job and want it back (being bad, they made it lucrative) so the Emperor (who doesn't like them either) lends some troops so they can all have a fight about it and be less of a threat to the Emperor.

Meanwhile there's the Strange Women - a bit like Jedi with some magic and stuff - who are tied up with the Good Guys and the Bad Guys for their own agenda.  

And there's the planet's indigenous people who are a bit like Arabs, who hate the Good Guys slightly less than the Bad Guys.
