A Touch of Tarantino, Tricky Dicky Style

In Bristol to see my brother-in-law, John Mackay, play Richard III at Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory.
With his gimlet eyes, rangy body and menacing smile, John brought a touch of Tarantino meets Boris Johnston to the role.
He was BRILLIANT! Funny. Flesh-creepy. Touching.
I forgot he was my husband's brother and found myself completely absorbed.
I wasn't alone in thinking that. All around us at the interval and after the show, the comments were 100% positive.
The production was timely as the skeleton found last year under an NCP car park in Leicester was confirmed as Richard III's just as John was rehearsing the role.
Shakespeare's version was a writer's view of history at least a century after the events took place.
Despite having a degree in English I'd never read it or seen it before. The acting was so good that I followed the plot during three hours on a hard seat. No mean feat!
The production ends tonight but remember the name ... If you don't see John Mackay on a screen near you soon, I'll eat my pork pie JournoJan hat!
