New bedroom, same mucky windows…

Almost everything about the bedroom is new, apart from the bed and bedding (I bought some new stuff today from JL), the laundry basket, the scales and the mucky windows. Cleaning the outside of our windows is a huge faff, and I haven’t had the energy to do it for quite some time. There is always the risk (and it has happened in the complex, but not thankfully to us) that the window will fall out of the frame when you spin it round and drop nearly five floors to the road. So you have to hang on to them when you do that. That’s the other reason, aside from inconvenience, which means it is a very very rare occasion when I wash the outside of the bedroom window and an only marginally more common occasion when I do the kitchen window.

Anyway, we are back in the bedroom, although we are leaving the sealant in the shower to cure for a full 24 hours so haven’t used the shower yet. I gave the en suite bathroom a deep clean, and it is now shiny. We dismantled the bed, wrestled it across the hall, and then put it back together again under the new lights. The bedside cabinets are perhaps a little larger than we had intended, but at least they provide plenty of storage. Overall, we are really pleased at the clean spare lines, and we chose the colour (a) to be unobtrusive and (b) to remind us of the kitchen cabinets which are also grey. And now we can look out for a statement piece of art to go on the wall behind the bed.

Other than this domestic work, I also planted out the hellebores that I bought - for an astonishingly reasonable price - in Lidl yesterday. They already have flowers on them, and when I planted them out I also saw they have very good root systems. A bit of jiggling around of the existing plants and the removal of a chrysanthemum and some now passé antiirrhinum plants enabled me to find space for them. Weather wise, it was sunny and rather pleasant outside. Earlier on the sun was streaming through the kitchen window and the piece of toughened glass we have in front of it, and making the kitchen really very warm. Finally, after a spin and a trip over to the supermarket for a few bits and pieces, I made dinner - a very tasty sausage pasta thingy.

It’s been a very satisfying, but rather tiring day.
