Patooie
Here is the same little downy woodpecker I recently blipped industriously excavating a hole for his nest. I have been checking on his progress each day as I walk past the tree, and today I watched him crawl inside the limb, turn around, and stick his head out of the hole. Then he disappeared back inside. I could hear him knocking around in there, and after a while he reappeared with a mouth full of wood shavings. Suddenly, patooie, he spit out the wood shavings and they drifted to the ground. Blipping away, I watched him repeat this process several times. He was still hard at work when I had to move on. This must be how the woodpeckers do their spring house cleaning.
You can see the sequence of today's five pictures starting here.
