Small but beautifully formed

The strange, leathery fruit bodies of an earth tongue fungus poking through a mossy patch on my lawn. They are tiny, only about 5cms high and look slightly sinister. They are members of the genus Geoglossum - literally earth tongue so aptly named by Christian Persoon in 1794.
