Wall Flowers
Wallpaper is not what one would normally celebrate as part of a family gathering. But listen to this for a kind gesture.
As a family we lost our dear Mother (2018) and Father (2019) before all this covid business (a lucky escape!). We wanted to sell the house when covid hit as soon as possible as we foresaw a recession and dropping in the value of the house. In fact the opposite happened and the house was sold way above our expectations.
We were very sad letting go of the house where we all grew up. We were unable to gather comfortably at any stage to bid it a fond farewell due to covid but we did what we could safely. The buyers were unknown to us except by name. The thoughts of strangers walking up the same stairs we lept up and down from as kids, and that dear Mum had to chair lift up eventually, was painful.
The gloom lifted however when we received a beautiful gift from the new buyers. Aside from the view of Dublin Bay so close, the buyers were delighted to see a section of the wallpapered kitchen wall tracking the growth of the grandchildren as they grew, and amazingly the shrinking of Mums height as she grew old! All in pencil between the petals and stems.
So, what did the new woman of the house do, but got a photographer neighbour in to photograph the wall before they started the renovations and framed one copy and got copies for the rest of the siblings (see photo)!
We know now that our beloved house is in good hands. Thank you Niamh and Cormac.
