The Lonely Train

Early this morning, my mother's new live-in carer arrived in Wiesbaden, after a 15-hour journey from Northern Poland. Her bus was delayed, which gave me time for a coffee and wander around the almost deserted main station.

After the damaged bridge over the railway tracks had to be demolished, all but one of the train lines to the city's main station were cut off.

It felt very strange to walk through this huge, empty space. Normally, every one of these platforms would be buzzing with commuters on a Monday morning.
