Still Going
We’ve had a remarkably mild November so far and it’s amazing to still see my fuchsia in bloom. It’s also been quite wet and I had to go round picking a load of moss up that had been washed off the roof. Despite not getting a text from DPD, they did turn up late morning to collect my faulty microwave. As I had to stay in, I’d been sorting out a few clothes for the charity shop including 3 good quality suits and a bag of work tops - never going be used again now! I also filled up the car this afternoon with things for the recycling centre, they’re always so helpful there.
Day 609 / Day 120 of Step 4 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
There was a coronavirus briefing this afternoon, with Boris warning again of the ‘storm clouds gathering over the continent’ and that ‘we don’t yet know the extent to which this new wave will wash up on our shores, but history shows we cannot afford to be complacent’. New cases today are back near 40,000, definitely an upward trend again. The strong recommendation was made again for people to take up the offer of a booster, which was today extended to 40-49 year olds. The PM also said that they are making plans to add the booster dose to the Covid Pass. A second jab is also now being offered to 16-17 year olds. On vaccinations Prof Chris Whitty urged pregnant women to get jabbed as 1,714 pregnant women have been admitted to hospital with Covid (1,681 weren’t vaccinated), 235 went into ICU (232 unvaccinated), and that there had been deaths. He also told the unvaccinated to get the jab to protect themselves, to protect others as less likely to catch it or to pass it on, and to free up hospital beds. The Health Secretary says that the ‘delta-plus’ variant now accounts for 15% of cases in the UK. Another report today warning of the ‘unprecedented strain’ emergency care is under. Up to 160,000 may have come to harm while waiting in ambulances outside busy hospitals, 12,000 of whom could have suffered serious harm.
