Private Eye's report – 'Profits of doom'

I decided to blip this latest copy of Private Eye (No 1560) because I think as many people as possible should be aware of their excellent eight page Special Report, titled ‘Profits of Doom’.

We need to bring to account the system that allowed the ‘companies and middlemen who cashed in on COVID… AND HOW THEY DID IT’, and this is that story as written by Richard Brooks.

‘As the greatest public health emergency for a century brought illness, bereavement and hardship to millions in the UK and presented taxpayers with a £75 billion bill for extra health spending, a smaller band of opportunists was using that cash to fund the richest of private paydays. This is the story of the Covid profiteers who took advantage of a country in crisis and the government that let them get away with it.’

As I write this I’m listening to the excellent radio journalist and broadcaster James O’Brien on his daily LBC radio show (10am-1pm every weekday). He is equally appalled by this Private Eye report and encourages all listeners to read it. (You should be able to listen to this particular episode online here)
