Crane Cloud
I returned to the dry dock and Inchgreen again this morning, I was coming back from skating it was a hard session and I was pushed out of my comfort zone...in the nicest possible way!
I have looked at these cranes for years and never thought about shooting them they are behind some high fences although they dominate the surrounding skyline, I saw yesterday that a new bund had been created to screen new houses that were built a few years ago and by scampering up the bund I could get a reasonable shot eliminating much of the fence.
The twins thought they looked like large prehistoric dinosaurs or giraffes but to me they are a symbol of a lost time, a heritage consigned to history. These are luffing cranes, the hook on these cranes stays in a fixed position, all of the lifting is done by the jib of the crane itself, they were common in the ship yards as they allowed very controlled movement of loads especially low to ground level.
The morning broke bright but the clouds have come and gone, this looked like it was bringing snow but again has passed over.
Happy Easter everyone, have a peaceful day
