Road still closed to cars etc
The road running through the middle of Bushy Park has now been closed to traffic since the start of the first Covid lockdown. At the time it was a great idea as it meant all the many people who went to the park ( many more than usual) could walk and cycle easily. However at that time there was little traffic on the surrounding roads. It is very different now with many people back at work and going shopping in Kingston etc. the people who used to go daily through the park from HamptonCourt to Teddington are now forced to go a different way which results in long queues going into Kingston and along the road to Hampton Hill. The Royal Parks are saying that they will make a decision next year. At first I was in favour of the road being traffic free but now I’m not so sure. We now have to check the traffic carefully when going out/ coming home and avoiding peak times. It must be very difficult for people who live in the Esher area going to/ from work now and for most of the day there are few cyclists on the tarmac road in the middle. Furthermore the dog walkers now don’t have a choice of which car park they go to without making a huge detour and those wanting to use the childrens playground near Hampton Court can not drive to it from Teddington.
