The Deposition.

This steel sculpture is by Anthony Caro 1999/2000. It can be seen in the ante chapel of Christ's College, Cambridge. 'The Deposition' is a tender subject and the sculpture speaks in a minor key. The body of Christ is being let down from the cross and wrapped in a winding sheet for burial, while mourners surround the scene.
Using a technique pioneered by Picasso, he was inspired by Ruben's great painting, "Deposition" in Antwerp Cathedral, also Rembrandt's little painting on the same theme in Munich.
Sir Anthony Caro, born 1924, studied engineering at Christ's College and sculpture at the Royal Academy. He also worked as an assistant to Henry Moore. This was the best angle that I could get a shot and even then, I moved a table, a notice board, a trestle and various bits and pieces. (I tried to look official as there were tourists about)
