ABSTRACT THURSDAY - SHAPE
I decided that I would Blip something from the garden for Abstract Thursday, but typical of me, I didn’t look to see what the theme was. However, I think that the shot I took fits the theme of Shape and is one of nature’s abstracts.
When we changed our garden last year, we bought several large pots and planted them up - and this particular plant, "Acanthus Whitewater" wasn’t that big, but it is now huge and not only has wonderful leaves, but also, at the time of writing, has nine flowerheads on it.
According to the blurb on the RHS website, it dies back to below ground level each year in Autumn then fresh new growth appears again in Spring. However, it is still looking very healthy and shows no signs of dying back and I rather like the little holes in the leaves, which for a change haven't been made by little creatures!
In other news, we spent a couple of hours in the garden yesterday and again this morning, tidying up and chopping down. We have several Council trees outside our fence, so there are always lots of leaves to collect and many of the plants in the garden were looking worse for wear, so they have been pruned.
We are waiting to hear from the garage that our car will be brought back soon, after its service yesterday. Sadly, it has been an “arm and a leg” job, meaning very expensive or as our Singaporean friend said once when I explained what the saying meant “That’s more than an arm and a leg, it’s a whole body”! The car needed a service, an MOT and four new tyres, then we were told that the brake pads and discs also needed changing - but we need to be sure it is safe, so it’s money well spent.
It’s now turned into a very murky day, so I think Netflix might be turned on this afternoon - speaking of which, we watched an amazing programme last night entitled "Fantastic Fungi" recommended to me by a Blip friend - it really is worth watching if you have Netflix.
“Live in each season
as it passes;
breathe the air,
drink the drink,
taste the fruit,
and resign yourself
to the influence
of the earth.”
Henry David Thoreau
