New reality day 479
This morning we did PiimäHeikki route in Vuokatti. PiimäHeikki is sour milk Heikki (Heikki is a Finnish male name). The route has a sad story. behind the name. In 1930's when Finland was suffering years of famine, people would travel around to find food.
So Heikki all the way from North Karelia was here in Vuokatti and knocked the door of a house asking for a drink as he was thirsty. They only had sour milk to give him. After he drunk the sour milk, he continued his journey. Next day he was found hanged in the heath. They only knew his name and that he'd drunk the sour milk. So the heath was named after him.
The story says that his ghost is still today active in the heath during dark autumn nights.
This photo is from the start of the route. If you are Finnish you have no problem recognizing the painted man on the board. He's our most famous president Urho Kaleva Kekkonen, often referred to by his initials UKK. He was a Finnish politician who served as the eighth and longest-serving President of Finland from 1956 until 1982.
I've met him when I was just about 10 years old. My friend and I were walking with my parents in Seurasaari in Helsinki. He was walking there too with his security guys behind him. Soili and I went to him, curtsied and said Good day Mr. President and he replied Good day girls.
Anyway he's kind of idolized in Finland. After his terms the rights of Presidents have been cut tremendously. They are mostly diplomats of the country and the real power is with the Prime Minister. So if I had a t-shirt with that picture of him, I'd wear it. It'd be cool :-)
The text underneath says Obey.
We also had another swim at the spa. And went out to late lunch after that. Next we'll feed the dogs, take them out and then start packing a bit. We need to be out of here by 10 am.
