Bearded Tits

Also known as Bearded Reedlings.

We are very lucky to have these in our local bird reserve as they are a scarce species.
it is estimated that there are 550 to 600 pairs in the United Kingdom.
They live in Reed beds most of which are near to the coast. They are normally very difficult to see,
but fortunately they do come out of the Reeds onto grit table put up by the RSPB in open areas.
Here they eat grit which helps them to grind up and digest the hard seeds which form their diet.

My shot shows two males and one female.

I was one of about fifteen photographers who patiently wait for them to emerge from the Reeds and spend
time on the tables.
