The Crossover

If you take the West Coast Rail line, about 20 minutes south of Penrith the track goes alongside Shap Limeworks. At night it is lit up like a Christmas tree. I used to do the journey a lot from London. Seeing this was the signal that I was nearly home. Along with the chill that went through the carriage as we approached Shap summit.
