Such a perfect day
This week's highlight was a visit to the Royal Academy summer show with my lovely son Joe (the one with the mask in today's blip). I've been to a couple of these exhibitions in the past and have been both underwhelmed by the poor quality of the art and overwhelmed by the visual noise from the jumble on the walls. Not this year! Its theme is “Reclaiming Magic" coordinated by the brilliant Yinka Shonibare, (whose work I love). It's full of space, exciting ideas, vibrant colour, different materials including lots of textiles, and a terrific range of artists. It's a properly inclusive show and it felt appropriate to be there on the day Azeem Rafiq gave his gut-wrenching testimony to the DCMS. Typically our government and media have made the whole conversation about racism in cricket only, as if the rest of our society isn't implicated, which it is.
Anyway spending the day with my boy was the nicest way to see beautiful paintings.
I've got more exhibition blips and as I'm nearly out of extras there will be more...I've been away from Blip for few days so I'm way behind on catching up with everyone's journals; thank you for all your recent stars and kind comments.
