Death Clock

This is a pocket watch in the British Museum. We were on London for the weekend for my husband's friends 50th birthday.

There were some very beautiful watches there, most of them in the normal rounded shape and some more daring and perhaps more for the tough of pocket-lining. There was a dog and a snail too that I particularly liked.

I wonder what sort of person owned such a watch as this one? Perhaps they had an odd sense of humour or perhaps they wanted to be reminded of how their life may slip away unnoticed if one does not seize the day?
