Lincoln Cathedral
A short break in the East Midlands while Harriet attends a residential course at Nottingham University.
Today takes us to Lincoln. This view of the cathedral is taken from the battlements of Lincoln Castle.
The cathedral, seat of the Bishop of Lincoln was started in 1088 and building continued in several phases throughout the medieval period. It was reputedly the tallest building in the world for 238 years (1311-1549).
The central spire collapsed in 1549 and was not rebuilt.
