Compost heap

I've just added a mixture of kitchen waste and some very fine bark to the heap and my compost is looking fantastic at the moment - lots of worm activity!

There are two schools for composting: those who keep the heap open to the elements and those who, like me, prefer to keep it covered. 

It's true that if you add the right amount of green and brown waste, it'll get hot enough inside the heap for proper composting but I think there's no harm in covering it and it means the amphibians that hibernate in there can hide further down in the compost.
