On Ilkley Moor

A good day to be out! Beautiful drive over the tops to Ilkley, then we walked up from the Ilkley Tarn to Simon Armitage’s Stanza Stone, The Beck Stone, the last Stone on his 47 mile poetry trail from Marsden to Ilkley. Then on to The Twelve Apostles stone circle before heading to The Cow and Calf rocks and back. A good bird day too! Lots of red grouse on the Moor - I love their chortling sound, this one posing in the sunshine as well as stonechat, heron, and close up views of several birds of prey, a buzzard, red kite, and a kestrel, it really is wonderful on a bright day up there - the views across to the ‘golf balls’ (American Base), the windmills, and the high mast at Norwood really are something. http://www.stanzastones.co.uk/
