Slioch
Another big day today. Me and the lads jammed into Ken's Landrover and got ourselves round to Kinlochewe for the walk into Slioch.
The thing about Slioch is you drive down the side of Loch Maree and think, "how the f*** do you get up that bastard?" Add a bit of snow and impossible begins to look a bit optimistic. You eventually get round to the route in but even then it's still not a doddle.
So myself, Ken, Andy W, Jim and Simon wandered up gained the ridge to the right and headed onto the summit. Much ooh-ing and ah-ing and identification of snow covered peaks went on as we eventually gained the summit where it all started again as we gazed into the Fisherfields, Fannaichs and An Teallach. We then went onto complete the route including a very narrow snowed up ridge the boys in the know described as "alpine". Was definitely a "no fall" section.
The descent off was a damn sight easier than the day before and after a long walk out we eventually got back to the hostel about half nine.
This was an utterly magical day on the hill. Slioch is now comfortably in my top ten Scottish mountains and that day among the best I'ver ever had on the hills.
Definitely best viewed large.
