A visit to Elsecar Heritage Centre
A morning trip to Elsecar Heritage Centre, near Barnsley, with Moira, a friend from our local library volunteer network.
We used to see each other at the library every week, working on the same shift. I opted out of those shifts a few months ago, as our weekly routine with the grandkids was so busy. I'll opt back in at some point, I think, although possibly to a back office role rather than the weekly shift on the counter. Some kinds of overhead lighting are a migraine trigger for me, and unfortunately the library lighting seems to be one of those kinds.
Anyway: these days Moira and I get together for occasional photography outings, now that we don't see each other in the library.
Elsecar was quiet when we got there, and we were free to explore the network of restored industrial buildings and overgrown railway lines. There's more info about the centre and its history here:

The main image is an image of one of the large pieces of machinery that can be seen on the site. The extra was taken under an old apple tree near the station buildings, much-neglected and partly engulfed in ivy. It seems no one wanted the apples; but the local blackbirds were appreciative.
Later I met Eben from school, as usual on Wednesdays, and took him to his 4 pm swimming lesson. A classmate was joining the same class today, much to Eben's fizzy delight.
