A family home, rather than a stately one

Thrumpton Hall is not far from the M1 and is very much lived in. We were taken round by Miranda Seymour, a member of the family, and a descendent of Lord Byron. She’s a historian and a biographer, passionate about her home and full of fascinating stories.

It’s deliciously chaotic, and stuffed full of treasures and family memories. We all loved it, and she sold lots and lots of her paperback history of the house, signed.

Pre pandemic, they did weddings and had a lot of staff. Now, it’s a different story. Life in such an ancient house is anything but easy.

My extra is the magnificent carved staircase.

It was a lovely day out, including the Arts Society Christmas lunch. Great to see everyone again.
