Simpson Memorial Maternity Hospital

Now the City Hotel. The bulding's connection with he Beatles is not that well known in Edinburgh, surprisingly. Stuart Sutcliffe, founder member and original bass player of the famous group was born here on 23 June 1940. The family moved to Liverpool in 1943, and while studying at Liverpool College of Art Stuart met John Lennon. Sutcliffe was a memmber of the group in their early days in Hamburg, he died there on 10 April 1962 (age 21). He had already left the group to continue his art studies in Hamburgh, one of his tutors was Eduardo Paolozzi, another famous 'son' of Edinburgh. It's a difficult building to blip, after trying every angle possable, this is the best of the bunch!
