Not Quite There Yet

We are hoping to do a test run on the new washer/dryer today.  Plumbing in a 170 year old farmhouse with just a crawl space under the kitchen is a challenge to say the least.  Steve did an amazing job but one of the hose connections may be defective.  We'll test it today.  If it doesn't hold then a replacement will have to be installed.  Still some trim work to be done and the baseboard to be reinstalled but we are almost there!  It is an all-in-one machine with a condensing dryer, very compact.

Steve discovered an "ancient" artifact in the crawl space (extra), an old sardine can!  Maine was the biggest canner of sardines in the US at one time with 50 canneries and 6,000 workers, mainly women, along the coast at the height of the industry in the 1950's.  The first one opened in Stonington in 1867. The last cannery closed in 2010.  If you are interested in the history of this industry you can read about it here.  At one time, sardines were the choice of the wealthy and lobsters were poor folk's food.  How things change.
