Cash Crop

An installation by Stephen Hayes at the Cameron Museum in Wilmington NC. This work is focused on slavery and each of these figures is chained to a structure in the shape of a slave ship. On the reverse of each is a diagram showing how the slaves were to be packed-in, with the only consideration being the most economical use of space. Powerful and disturbing stuff.
