Post mill

We passed this on our way home in the gloaming after a lovely day visiting old friends.

We had coffee with Nigel, an old colleague and Mary his wife, who has some form of dementia. She can’t tell if it is winter or summer but she can quickly crack a joke at his expense. They were on good form despite it all.

Then it was on to Sue and Simon. She was #1 daughter’s A level history teacher. Daughter invited her to a party at our house when she was new to the area and did not know many people. She’d not met us, so when she turned up at a party in our village and was welcomed it she she didn’t realise immediately she was at the wrong party. She then left and arrived at our house, very apologetic as she’d given the wine to the other party host. She became a super-headteacher and did brilliantly. Simon is a lovely man who was content being a main grade teacher, ferrying their children to various activities etc and supporting Sue. Now they are both retired and she does multitude good works, runs over 3,000 km a year etc etc. super women are tiring but she is a good soul. Simon has a degenerative muscle-wasting disease which they cope with admirably together. I’m full of admiration for them both. He was a triathlete and now can barely walk but he has an E bike and can still use it. Life is cruel, but as they both said, they are still around enjoying it, unlike our #1 daughter.

A really nice day and they all said they were pleased we’d made the effort to come down.
