Comfort and Joy....
Tis the Season...The snow has landed and more is coming. It is cold out there - time to dig out my winter scarves, mitts and hats. Having been through many knitting sprees over the years, I have quite a collection. They fill one of those suitcases that come as a set of three? with one that is too big to actually lug through an airport, and so never gets taken anywhere?.. That one is the summer home of my winter knits...and it is crammed.
Every year, when I open it up, I tell myself I need to sort through all these warm and cosy things ..and despite the fact that they give me comfort in the cold of winter, I need to give some away..but which ones?
I am reading this book about how everyday things can give us joy, and it starts with a chapter on colour and how it can energize us and make us happy and joyful...The theory worked when I added brilliants reds to my living room ..see how energized I am? I spent the entire day today digging first through these knitted winter accessories and then - being so energized, through all my Christmas decor boxes! All that and nary a nap!
So back to my scarves...and the search for joy. According to the book, I am encouraged to wear brightly coloured clothes, even at my advanced age....it will make me feel good, energized and joyful. In fact, the author said, it can help make other people happy too when they see me so vividly attired..I will brighten up a room or a street ...So, after sorting through ALL my wool scarves, I picked these ones as my favourites and my ticket to joy. ..the conservative ones will still have a place in my closet...at least temporarily..but if I don't end up wearing them, they will move on to the Salvation Army.... and I will feel good and joyful for being so charitable...
Indeed, 'tis the season...Peace on Earth and Good Wool to All...
