Scottish East Coast Punk '77-'78
Following on from my ticket blip, yesterday, I looked out a few Scottish punk singles, by The Rezillos and The Valves. Punk was really quite a broad movement. The Rezillos were never spitting with rage, and The Valves didn’t even look like punks. Their classic song was Ain’t No Surf in Portobello. The Rezillos were a mixture of east coast humour, allusions to science fiction and comic book presentation. Their best song for me was I Can’t Stand My Baby. Their singer was called Fay Fife, and the guitarist Luke Warm. The Valves just had ordinary names. There is a lot of wit in these records, which is what endears them to me.
